La IAAF implementará el programa antidopaje más amplio hasta el momento durante los campeonatos de atletismo que se celebrarán en Berlín del 15 al 23 de agosto.
En una nota de prensa, comunicó que se recogerán más de mil muestras, tanto antes como durante las pruebas que se celebrarán en Alemania.
Antes del campeonato, en Berlín se recogerán aproximadamente 600 muestras de sangre; mientras que durante la competición se tomarán otras 400 muestras de sangre y orina. Todas las muestras serán enviadas a los laboratorios acreditados de la Agencia Mundial Antidopaje (AMA) en Colonia y Dresde (Alemania), para ser izadas.
La mayor parte de las muestras de sangre recogidas durante los campeonatos formará parte del programa de pasaporte biólogico de la IAAF y serán añadidas a los perfiles individuales de cada atleta. Desde 2009 la IAAF ha venido tomando muestras de ciertos atletas como parte de su programa de pasaporte biológico.
El presidente de la IAAF, Lamine Diack, subrayó que los campeonatos constituían una oportunidad para reconocer a los atletas que no se dopan.
"Me gustaría poner atención a la inmensa mayoría de atletas honestos que llegarán a estos campeonatos y competirán en función de sus propias capacidades y años de trabajo duro y sacrificio. Toda esta labor antidopaje se hace para protegerlos y para que Berlín pueda unirse y celebrar sus triunfos.

To say that the worldwide mitaunon running community is deeply saddened by this loss is an understatement. Danny has give so much of his time and energy to our sport which he loved so much. I was typically in communication with Danny at least weekly, oft times daily. I was fortunate to share many dinners, runs on several different contintents, heart-to-heart talks, and most importantly a passion for our sport. When I last saw Danny just a few weeks ago at our WMRA meetings in Monaco, he was vibrant, energetic, and full of smiles. I shared my last run with Danny on Saturday, January 17 along the coast an out-and-back 3 miler. I will never forget this and the many other special moments I shared with Danny over the past 15 years. My thoughts are with Danny's wife Norma, his children, his grandchildren, and his family in mitaunon running.
